Cerros Maya Site

Cerros is a Spanish name "Hills" invented by the local people. It is located on a peninsula across from the town of Corozal and in the Bay of Chetumal. This site was important as a coastal trading center during the Late Preclassic Period.

Cerros is a short boat ride of approximately fifteen minutes from Corozal Town, where boats can be hired and accommodation is available. During the dry season, January to April, Cerros can be reached in a rented vehicle by the road which passes through Chunox, Progresso and Copper Bank villages with their beautiful lagoons.

If you are coming from near Corozal Town, you can take the Puerto Nuevo Ferry, more directly to Copper Bank.

The facilities at the site itself are very limited, and insect repellent is highly recommended.
